Flame Sensor Based on Resistance-TemperatureCharacteristic of Yttria-Stabilized Zirconia
National Key Laboratory of Science and Technology on Aero-Engine Aero-Thermodynamics,School of Energy and Power Engineering,Beihang University,Beijing 100191,China
Abstract:
A novel flame sensor based on the resistance-temperature characteristic of Yttria-stabilized Zirconia (YSZ) thermistor was devised, and the thermistor current outputted from the sensor served as the indication of flame. The YSZ resistances under temperature ranged from 673K to 1523K were measured by the use of voltammetry, which validated that the resistance depends exponentially on the reciprocal of temperature. The YSZ flame sensor was utilized for the ignition and blowout detections on a Tirril burner, meanwhile, effects of excitation voltage (3V~15V), flame temperature (720K~1480K) and fuel gas flowrate (60L/h~150L/h) on the step response characteristics of the sensor to flame were studied. Results showed that the thermistor current was directly proportional to the excitation voltage and ascended with the flame temperature. The response time to ignition decreased with the flame temperature and fuel gas flowrate. The response time to blowout was independent of the flame temperature and fuel gas flowrate. YSZ flame sensor can correctly respond to the flame and the thermistor current is strong and steady enough.
